Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question not answered here, feel free to reach out to us at admin@onehealthhackathon.org.

Is the One Health Hackathon a traditional programming-based hackathon?

OHH is more like an ‘ideathon’— the final products will be action plans that address the assigned disease. However, these action plans can take many forms: they can include app prototypes, business pitches, policy platforms, and more. We encourage you to think about global health issues through an interdisciplinary lens!

Who can participate at the One Health Hackathon?

OHH 2021 is open to high school students (grades 9-12). However, interested adult teams are welcome to sign up as well— you just won’t be eligible to win prizes.

Will the One Health Hackathon take place virtually?

Yes, OHH will be hosted virtually on Hopin. This will continue to be the case in future years as well, in order to facilitate as much international collaboration as possible.

I don’t have a team—can I still sign up?

Yes, definitely! We strongly encourage individual sign-ups; we’ll place you on a team with other students from around the world, so you’ll get to meet people with new and unique perspectives.

Can I start writing my team’s action plan before the hackathon starts?

While we encourage you to do some research on your disease before the hackathon, it’s in your team’s best interests not to get ahead of yourselves— the mentors will have very valuable advice that may change your ideas quite a bit. It also wouldn’t be fair to the other participants!

If I’m not a participant, can I still watch the speaker series?

Yes, our speaker series will be open to the public. Lectures will also be posted on our youtube channel after the conclusion of the hackathon.
